LOUISA, KY. — David Bryan Johnson, 40, of Louisa, was arrested on December 29, 2017, at 10:44 A.M., by Chief Greg Fugitt of the Louisa Police Department, and was charged with: NON PAYMENT OF FINES, FAILURE TO APPEAR.
But the action began after the arrest for the initial charges that were just bench warrants and misdemeanor charges, when jail transport officers noticed that Johnson was clearly under the influence and his behavior was erratic.
On Route 23 near Lowmansville, Johnson begin to kick the windows and the door wildly, due to the substance and was clearly irrational, officers said.
Lawrence Co. Jailer Roger Lee Jordan called Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Wheeler for backup because Wheeler had been present at the time of the arrest and was the closest to the transport car. Wheeler got behind the transport car at the Meade’s Branch area.
Above the Lomansville Fire Department, Johnson finally got one of the bars off and used it as a weapon to bust the window out. Jailer Jordan advised Deputy Bill Hall that he had busted the window and that he needed to stop the car.
Jordan then called the BSRDC to send their van because it is equipped with a security package.
As they were in route, officer Steve Wilburn and Chief Fugitt (who initially made the arrests) heard the call on the radio and also came to assist, followed by Dep. Chuck Jackson.
Johnson was then put in the BSRDC van and transported on to jail.
“I appreciate all of those who came to assist,” Jailer Jordan said. “When an incident like this happens, there is obviously a better chance of a good outcome with numbers. Those guys didn’t hesitate to come and because of that, no one was hurt.”
Johnson ended up with several extra charges due to the incident, 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment, 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest and Attempted Escape and Criminal Mischief, 1st degree.
