LOUISA CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO TABLE MEDICAL CANNABIS ORDINANCE AFTER PASSING IT LAST MEETING

The Louisa City Council had a Regular Monthly Meeting on Tuesday August 13, 2024 at Louisa City Hall, 215 N. Main Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky 41230 at 6PM. City of Louisa Mayor Harold Slone was in attendance along with Louisa City Council Members Joey McClanahan, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester, Coty Roe and Keith Chaffin.
APPROVE MINUTES
A Motion was made by Rose Lester 2nd by Caleb Farley to approve the July 9, 2024 Minutes. All in favor. SEE VIDEO
FIRST READING AMENDMENT FOR TOURISM ORDINANCE 2000-2A
A Motion was made by Keith Chaffin 2nd by Joey McClanahan to approve the First Reading Amendment for Tourism Ordinance 2000-2A. All in favor. This Amendment will combine Louisa and Lawrence County on all Tourism business. SEE VIDEO
APPROVE FIRST READING OF MEDICAL CANNABIS ORDINANCE 2024-05
Rose Lester made a Motion to table the First Reading of Medical Cannabis Ordinance 2024-05 until after the November election and see the county results. The LC Fiscal Court voted to put the choice of whether marijuana can be sold here on the ballot to see how the public feels. Keith Chaffin 2nd the Motion. All in favor. SEE VIDEO
REQUEST FOR MOTOR VEHICLE & WATERCRAFT PROPERTY TAX RATES LETTER KRS 132.487
There are no changes to the Motor Vehicle & Watercraft Property Tax Rates. This item passed unanimously with a Motion by Keith Chaffin 2nd by Coty Roe. SEE VIDEO
ACCEPT BID FOR WTP BACKWASH PUMP
There were 3 bids opened at Louisa City Hall on July 11, 2024 at 2PM.

SET RATES FOR 2024
The Louisa City Council kept the Tax Rates the same as last year at .240 A Motion was made by Rose Lester 2nd by Caleb Farley. All in favor. SEE VIDEO
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT
Mayor Slone announced that the City of Louisa received the Homeland Security Grant for $484,525 earmarked for the new sewer plant. This will cover all upgrades needed for software and will cover one person working this job for 2 years with a paid salary. The City of Louisa will not have to match this grant.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Joey McClanahan discussed the Time Capsule idea and will have manilla envelopes for the public to purchase. More information to come. SEE VIDEO
WHY HASN’T TRASH PILE ON LOCK AVE. BEEN REMOVED?
Council members were all speaking of the large trash pile located on Lock Avenue they voted to have removed is still there two months later. There were no motions or comment by Mayor Slone.
MOTION TO ADVERTISE FOR ASPHALT
Mayor Slone wants to advertise for asphalt and milling for the City of Louisa. Motion by Keith Chaffin 2nd by Coty Roe. All in favor.
