LOUISA CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS SWORN IN; SUNDAY ALCOHOL TIMES CHANGED

LOUISA, KY. (DEC. 12, 2023) — The Louisa City Council had a Regular Scheduled Monthly Meeting on December 12, 2023 at Louisa City Hall, 215 N. Madison Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky. Mayor Harold Slone was in attendance along with Louisa City Council Members Joey McClanahan, Gary Robertson, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester, Coty Roe and Keith Chaffins.
Mayor Harold Slone Announcements
Mayor Harold Slone has a few announcements before Louisa City Council began.
- The Louisa City Council has been invited to the Lawrence County Christmas Dinner on December 15, 2023.
- The Louisa Fire Department will be having Christmas Dinner on December 16, 2023 at the Louisa Fire Station #2.
The Louisa City employees will have a Christmas Luncheon before Christmas break at the Carter Room, which is beside the Garden Theater on December 21, 2023 at 1PM.
New City Council Members Sworn In
Louisa City Council Members Keith Chaffin and Coty Roe were sworn in by Louisa City Attorney Eldred E. (Bud) Adams after being elected last November for the unexpired terms of Ashley Caudill and Tom Parsons. The terms will last one year..
Owner of The Jordan Center thanks Council
David McKenzie Jr. from The Jordan Center, Louisa, Kentucky was at the Louisa City Council Meeting to thank the council for a donation to help give a ‘Hand Up’ to those who have suffered with addiction, and are in recovery by training them in the medical field, so they can work and provide for their families, and to talk about the ongoing progress with The Jordan Center. Sunday Alcohol Sales, Council Changes the time it can be sold
Michael Smith and Karynn Smith are local owners of ‘Smitty’s.’ Karen Smith appeared before the Louisa City Council to request moving the alcohol sales on Sunday from 3PM to 12PM. An ordinance will have to be prepared by Eldred E. (Bud) Adams. Motion was made by Caleb Farley 2nd by Gary Robertson and None Opposed. (SEE VIDEO)
Green Lawn Cemetery, Bill Bradley Board Member
Bill Bradley was the next guest who is a member of the Greenlawn Cemetery Board. Bradley requested a police patrol through Greenlawn, because “there are loafers meeting at the cemetery”. The cemetery is under surveillance with video cameras that are monitored daily. Plus, Bradley said there is a person who will pay for all the fees of the annexation of the small piece of property into city limits.. There is one tract of land that in Greenlawn Cemetery that will have to be annexed into the city, the owner has approved this transaction. Approve Bid for Louisa Water Line Replacement, Town Hill
Mayor Slone discussed the bid to approve Louisa Water Line Replacement, Town Hill, Louisa, Kentucky. The bid was awarded to CTW Contracting, West Liberty, Kentucky, with a bid of $222,975. Motion by Caleb Farley 2nd by Gary Robertson, None Opposed. (SEE VIDEO)

The Utilities Board Members approved by Louisa City Council to serve are:

Geoffrey Branham 3 yr term.
Motion by Coty Roe 2nd by Rose Lester. None Opposed.
Jeff Kinser 3 yr term. Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Caleb Farley. None Opposed.
Neil Wilson 1 yr term.
Motion by Keith Chaffin 2nd by Caleb Farley. None Opposed.
Mayor Slone explained that the new 911 Board will consist of the following:
Mayor
City Council Member
Judge
Magistrate
Law Enforcement – Chief of Police
Fire Department Fire Chief
Director of Emergency Management
The 911 Board will meet at the Lawrence County Courthouse, Downtown, on a quarterly basis and the time will be set by the Chairman of the 911 Board. The Interlocal Agreement passed with a Motion from Joey McClanahan 2nd by Gary Robertson. Roll Call. The Louisa City Council Members nominated Coty Roe to be on the 911 Board. Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Gary Robertson. The 911 Board documents will also have to be approved by the LC Fiscal Court. (SEE VIDEO)
Other News…
Mayor Slone took up a housekeeping topic at Louisa City Council. TheLevisaLazer.com had requested all City employees income from the City of Louisa. There was a spreadsheet problem that caused the Mayor’s yearly income to double on that report. Due to this error, the Louisa City Council will have to resubmit this report to show the correct amount of the Mayor’s income. (SEE VIDEO)
Marc Lester, Naming the New Louisa Street Sweeper
Next, Marc Lester gave a lively presentation on naming the City of Louisa’s street sweeper. Rose Lester was nominated to Supervise this Action. (SEE VIDEO)
