LOUISA CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS WILBURN AS CHIEF OF POLICE…

The Louisa City Council had a Special Meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Louisa City Hall, 215 N. Main Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky at 6PM. Mayor Harold Slone was in attendance along with the Louisa City Council Members Joey McClanahan, Kala Brown, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester, Coty Roe and Keith Chaffin.
ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE MAYOR
- The City of Louisa will be taking applications till Monday for lifeguards. Slone said, “We have enough applications turned in and Monday April 21, 2025 will be the last day.”
Also, There was ‘fairly significant’ damages to the Louisa Sewer Plant, Raw water intake and a 4 inch line in the river. FEMA will be meeting with the Mayor and employees about these damages.
APPROVE MINUTES
The Minutes for March 11, 2025 was unanimously approved with a Motion by Coty Roe seconded by Keith Chaffin.
APPOINTMENT OF POLICE CHIEF, SERGEANT AND CHIEF PATROL OFFICER
Steven (Boomer) Wilburn has been the Interim Police Chief since the retirement of City of Louisa Police Chief Greg Fugitt. Wilburn is now the Chief of Police.
Wilburn began his career as a member of Louisa Vol. Fire Department in 1999 and has been on the Louisa Police Force since 2008.
“Steven Wilburn was promoted to police chief , Hunter James was promoted to Sargent (which was Steven’s old position) officer Teddy Newsome was promoted to senior patrol officer, Mayor Slone said in a brief statement.

RESOLUTION MUNICIPAL ROAD AID COOPERATIVE PROGRAM AGREEMENT
Mayor Slone said,”We do this every year, whenever anyone purchases gas, a portion comes back to the city as tax for road improvements. The Resolution was passed unanimously to go with the Cooperative Agreement 3% fund.
APPROVE CONTRACT FOR MUNICIPAL WASTE DISPOSAL
The Contract for Municipal Waste Disposal was passed unanimously to renew for another year. Motion by Caleb Farley seconded by Coty Roe
MARCH 2025 BUDGET REPORT
Mayor Slone discussed the 2025 Budget Report which is due by July 1, 2024.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The City Council authorized the Mayor to enter into a long term lease for a portion of city property to an as yet unnamed company for a communications facility.
“We are considering leasing a small piece of land up on tower hill to a communications company. Not settled yet,” Mayor Slone said.
