February 7, 1942 — June 28th, 2025

Linda Abshire Shannon, 83, passed away on June 28th at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort after a brief battle with congestive heart failure and a stroke. Linda will be greatly missed by her extensive family and friends. She loved and touched many lives during her time on this Earth. She is now with her Lord and Savior. She is currently singing for the Lord and is blind no more. She can hear, see, her mind and body are whole again. We rejoice for our mother as we cry for ourselves.
Linda was born on February 7, 1942, in Long Acre, WV to the late Willie and Edith Dixon Abshire. She grew up in Carbondale Hollow, WV; lived most of her life in Charley, KY, and moved to Frankfort, KY in 2022. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Donald Lee Shannon (married June 2, 1960), eight siblings, Jack, Edna, Walter, Johnny, Ireland, Revia, Susan, and Homer Ray; one grandson, Jarod Hackler; and her cocker spaniel of 18 years, Buck.
She is survived by her sister, Matilda Young; five children, Donna Lynn (Keith) McNeil of Frankfort, KY, Donald Lee (Vickie) Shannon of Louisa, KY, David Walter (Pam) Shannon of Louisa, KY, Lisa Shannon (Tim) Hamrick of Summersville, WV, and Joseph Samuel Shannon (Carrie Shields) of Lexington, KY; grandchildren Jeffrey Scott (Christy) Marlin, Amber (Jay) Burton, Ashley Shannon Copley, Breanna Shannon, Brittany Shannon (Mark) Parsons, Caleb Hackler, Christopher (Aimee) Greenwold, Joshua Boyd, Bethany Boyd Broce, Oscar Treadway, RJ Baldridge; a host of great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; her dog, BB; and numerous family and friends.
Linda was a loving mother, wife, and friend. She was a homemaker, seamstress, talented cook, accountant, caretaker, and later in life worked as a security guard for Kentucky Power.
She has been described as a cracker jack installing laughter in every situation. She never met a stranger. She loved our Lord, flowers, animals, her family, crocheting (especially baby blankets), singing, her guns, and the Cincinnati Reds. She attended Isaac Park Church while raising her family, Charley Freewill Baptist Church when she could, and watched/listen to Paster Arnold Murray Shepherd’s Chapel.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Young Funeral Home.
Reverend Willie Hayes will be officiating her funeral services at noon on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Young Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Joe Castle will be officiating the graveside services at the Shannon Cemetery, Charley, KY.
Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Shannon.
…Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. –Amen
