EDITOR,
Everyone needs healthcare. Everyone deserves healthcare. As a nurse, it just seems obvious to me that the health and wellbeing of Kentuckians should be the first priority of our state. But there are elected leaders at both the state and federal level who are trying to restrict people’s access to life-sustaining healthcare by drastically cutting funds to Medicaid, the insurance program for children, the disabled, and low-income adults, which is a life-line for one in four Kentuckians.
In Congress, there is an attempt to scrap the Affordable Care Act which gave 32 million people new access to healthcare, ended insurance industry abuses such as dropping coverage for the seriously ill, and insured the survival of rural hospitals.
We, as Kentuckians who care about our families and neighbors, need to take a stand. The Rally for Healthcare this Saturday, July 29th 11:00 am at the Coal Run City Park is an opportunity to do just that. This is a family-friendly event with live music and inspiring speakers and everyone is welcome. The Rally for Healthcare is sponsored by Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, United Steelworkers Local 14581, and many other local organizations.
