Wake up! It’s Time For School!!!
Lawrence County students headed back to school Monday morning September 28 after a month of virtual learning. Yes, they had to wear their masks and maintain social distancing, but they did it and succeeded on this first day of in person classes.
It was uncomfortable for everyone as you can imagine with having to wear masks all day, but staff and students alike were happy and excited to be able to experience seeing their friends and have some normalcy back in their lives.
356 students were in attendance at LCHS, which is half of the student population compared to last year.
Barcodes on the doors have replaced hand held hall passes. Students are required to scan in and out of classes with their phones or chrome books, when needing to leave the classroom during class time.
Along with Social Distancing signs placed throughout the school, there are 6ft apart markers as a constant reminder for students.
“We haven’t seen our kids since March 13. Today we are finally able to see them, and we couldn’t be more pleased with them and how today has gone”, LCHS Principal Christy Moore said. Mrs. Moore also said that with the exception of wearing masks, and using both the cafeteria and the gym as designated eating areas for students, everything else is the same as last year.
“We have face covering required and social distancing signs throughout our hallways, posted on our entrance doors and placed on the football field as well.” Mrs. Moore said. “The health and wellbeing of our students and staff is our number one priority.”
Mrs. Moore added that Lawrence County has done a remarkable job with the virtual learning and because of the hard work of teachers, students, staff and families along with this community this first day has been great and a total success!
