Autumn Blevins takes reins of Lawrence Co. Volleyball
LOUISA, KY — Lawrence Co. Volleyball will be under new direction this season as Autumn Blevins takes over a program that went 7-22 and lost to eventual 15th Region Floyd Central in the first round of the 58th District tournament.
The VolleyDawgs held tryouts earlier this week and had 22 girls come out for the team. Blevins will keep all 22 for the upcoming season.
The team voted for Captains and Seniors Lexi Workman and Ellan Sparks were chosen for the 2018 season.
The Schedule will be challenging this season with the first game August 9th at home against Holy Family at 6:00. The rest of the schedule should be finalized next week.
The VolleyDawgs are hosting their first tournament “THE BULLDOG BASH” on Saturday August 18th. They will have vendors there promoting local crafts, artists, and small businesses within the community. If anyone is interested in setting up a table, it’s $20 and they can contact Sharon Workman.
Coach Blevins teaches Social Studies at LCHS and is married to Steven Blevins. They have a 3 year old son, Gunner, and a 1 year old daughter, Nola.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“… I love volleyball, but I love sports in general. I feel that sports shape our youth and teach respect, responsibly, competitiveness, and how to deal with adversity. I’ve been a part of very successful volleyball programs growing up in Shady Springs, West Virginia. I know the sport, having played it for nine years and being a part of two AA state championship volleyball teams.”
“… This coaching position will give me the opportunity to pass down what I’ve learned from those successful programs and become a positive influence on these young ladies. The goal is to build a program where girls are competitive, goal-oriented, respectful, and represent Lawrence County in a positive impactful manner.”
“.. 22 showed up to tryouts and I kept all 22. The reason I kept everyone was because Lawrence County hasn’t had many programs for our youth in the sport of volleyball up until the addition of a middle school program last year. If the girls are wanting to learn the sport and are willing to put the effort in every day, I am willing to help them develop.”
“… The team did vote on team captains today, seniors Lexi Workman and Ellan Sparks were chosen. I know they played last year and have great leadership skills that will make a huge impact on our team. I tried not to ask a lot of questions regarding last season. I wanted to make decisions based on what I observed from open gyms and tryouts.”
