Thankful for our LC School Team

When we think about Thanksgiving, the image we often think about is a big, busy table with many different people that are special in our lives (and many different foods). For me, Thanksgiving means time with my husband, our daughters, grandsons, son-in-law, mom, and father-in-law as all of us gather around a table enjoying conversation (and food).
At Lawrence County Schools, our classrooms and schools are like that big table. It takes many different people doing many different jobs to help students learn and grow. As Superintendent, I want to thank everyone who fills any role in our schools this year.
I am thankful for the cafeteria staff. They do more than just make food; they often provide the most regular, warm meal our kids get all day. That care is a crucial part of helping a student feel ready to learn.
I am thankful for our transportation, custodian, and maintenance staff. They are the people who keep our schools safe and clean. Our bus drivers are the first and last friendly faces many students see each day, making sure everyone arrives safely and ready to start.
I am thankful for our aides and support staff. These are the people who work one-on-one with kids, or in small groups to help a student when they need extra support. Their focused, patient work helps students achieve major goals.
I am thankful for the people who make sure our school days run smoothly. This includes our dedicated secretaries (the first voices and faces in our offices), and our administrators who lead our schools and make crucial decisions. I am also thankful for our counselors who guide students through academic and personal challenges.
And of course, I am thankful for the teachers. I am grateful for the work they do every day to inspire, teach, and care for our children, even when the job is tough.
A school system is not built by just one person, or one group of people. It takes all of these roles, with everyone doing their important job, to create a great education for our students. Every single role helps set the “table” of opportunity for our children.
This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to be thankful for the people who play a vital role in your own life. Let’s recognize the essential contributions that keep Lawrence County strong and keep our children learning.
On behalf of Lawrence County Schools, happy Thanksgiving.
