Laurence County Sheriff Chuck Jackson, who is now just over 13 months into his job, has stated he has made progress with his local impact program, and with the drug problem in Lawrence County.
Over the last year, Sheriff Jackson reported that there have been approximately 244 arrests in Lawrence County, including 115 that were drug related.
New programs utilized by Sheriff Jackson’s department include the impact program, and also the drug interdiction the two K-9 drug dogs.
For Sheriff Jackson, he is apparently driven by his major motivation for his new programs he has implemented.
“You can not do police work without prevention,” Sheriff Jackson said. “We want to help them to not get involved in drugs and other activities, and we need to build stronger relationships with the children, by talking to them more.”
Sheriff Chuck Jackson stated that there are many resources that can utilized without someone who has been in criminal and legal trouble.
“That is why we are partner with Social Services, in a non-official capacity; along with Pathways, Safe harbor, and Hope’s Place, as well as Three Rivers for mental health and detox. We also utilize ARC (Addition Care Recovery), and those partners,” according to Sheriff Jackson.
“Resources are available outside the law enforcement and social services, and we encourage those who need help to reach out.”
Drug Interdiction Cooperation Cooperation (D.I.C.E.) is a voluntary collaboration between the Lawrence County Sheriff Office, the Louisa Police Department, the Lawrence County Constables Association in an effort to focus individual department resources toward the joint eradication of illegal drugs entering into Lawrence County.
“We share the costs between all three agencies,” Sheriff Jackson said. “We share information with each other about the cases we are working on. We work together to get drugs off the street.”
Sheriff Jackson stated that they did an impact community event where one person left to go with ARC for treatment.
“I saw them later and and they were still in treatment,” Sheriff Jackson said. “We want to see more of that and to see it grow. Our goal is to get it into full swing, to maintain it and to get it stabilized.”
Another project that Sheriff Jackson’s office started is to partner with Camp Caleb to offer the opportunity for children who would otherwise would have not the opportunity to attend the camp.
“We have four weekends a year and we want to send 20 to camp each weekend. That’s 80 kids per year,” Sheriff Jackson stated.
In an another addition, the Lawrence County Sheriff Office also just received a donation from the Lawrence County Farm Bureau, for the purchase of two portable breath tests; and plus, Marathon Petroleum gave a donation of $5000 for trauma kits for each patrol car, & for emergency equipment for Sheriff Jackson’s office, and for the Lawrence County Courthouse.
Great job Chuck Jackson and all his deputies for all the hard work and also Greg Fugitt and his officers for their dedication to helping keep the streets clean and safe
Sheriff give us a break down of the arrest by each department or at least numbers by departments. Some people are saying Daniel Castle has done close to what the sheriffs department has. Let us know what your department has done in your first year compared to years past.
I’m pretty sure that Daniel Castle made about 243 of those arrests.
I agree that it’s a good idea for cops to spend time with children. I believe it really could made a difference in their view of cops as they grow up. As I was growing up, I always had a negative feeling towards cops. I think I was scared of them. I never got into trouble….I just never had any relationship with cops at all.
Weezie I understand that. I was asked once by a lady to scare her little boys because they wouldn’t wear their seatbelts. I ask her, if I scare them and sometime in the future someone is trying to kidnap them or worse, do you want them to run to or away from a cop? She said she never thought about it that way, then I went over and made friends with the boys, even took them a ride in the police car, then I ask them to wear their seatbelts because I didn’t want them to get hurt. They did! I also had 2 little pals from then on:)
I thinks all the hard work and dedication that Officer Chuck Jackson has put in has really paid off this far. Who cares what department had more arrests, what matters is that they are all working as a team now to keep drugs out of our county. We don’t see Daniel Castle working with kids to ensure the next generation understands the horrible affect of drugs. These kids are the future of this town and in my opinion Chuck is very smart for making such a commitment to teaching these children about drug prevention! Also as you can all see bc you’re all always commenting on the court reports every other week about how our judge let’s everyone out on probation anyways so what good would it do for Chuck to bust his a** arresting people so they can get out the next day? I say worry about preventing our children from getting sucked into that horrible lifestyle and pray that the people whom are currently drug addicted to seek treatment because at the end of the day no addict will quit until THEY ARE READY. I don’t care of they’re arrested a million times js.
Yes I am proud of the law enforcement agencies for working together and getting rid of the drugs, as well as helping them with a problem to get help, while making the children feel safe enough to be able to confide in them if they need to. Some parents want their children to be scared of law enforcement so they won’t tell them if anything bad is going on in the home. Keep up the good work!
He sure does have a lot of people fool.
So very proud the agency’s are working together. First time in many years I have seen such wonderful cooperation, instead of competing and wanting to claim all of the glory. Great work Sheriff Jackson, constables and all involved. #TEAMWORK
I am very proud to say that Chuck has been a long time friend of mine, and I think that he and all of the law enforcement officers in Lawrence County have been doing a great job!! I sure wish we had the same to say about Fort Gay…absolutely no law enforcement!
