PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2018) – As part of Governor Matt Bevin’s commitment to asset management and increasing economic opportunity across the state, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is pleased to announce $186,523 in discretionary funds have been awarded to the Lawrence County Fiscal Court for vital resurfacing work on the Left Fork of Little Blaine Creek Road.
“The Bevin administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. “This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have large impacts to communities.”
Lawrence County Judge-Executive John Osborne identified this road as being among the most critical in the county.
“The Lawrence County Fiscal Court would like to thank everyone for all the hard work in getting the Left Fork of Little Blaine approved for two miles of resurfacing,” said Judge-Executive Osbourne. “This will be a great help for people of Little Blaine Creek Road to improve safety and travel in the community.”
Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.
“This funding helps us tackle the worst of our road conditions and will improve safety for countless Lawrence residents who drive those roads daily,” said Rep. Jill York. “I appreciate the Governor making local infrastructure investments a priority for our citizens.”
The Lawrence County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the project.
Resurfacing work will address:
