All,
I just wanted to make you aware that myself, the Boyd, Carter, and Greenup County Agents are organizing farm relief for those affected by the ice storm and the recent flooding.
We are collecting donations for local farmers who are in immediate need. We are getting donations for fencing supplies, hay, feed, bedding, and monetary donations.
This is an effort to help those who were hit hard with the recent weather and that need help getting over the hump. Fences are down from fallen trees due to ice and were either damaged or destroyed due to high water. Hay was also ruined leaving farmers in a bind. There are still many weeks left of winter feeding for those with cattle, horses, goats, etc. If you know of anyone wanting to donate towards this effort, please have them contact me.
We are using the Boyd County Fairgrounds as a central distribution site for these northeast counties. They have the facilities to keep things in the dry and to allow easy access for large donations hauled by tractor trailer. No donation is too big or too small. There is a post on our facebook page if you would please share it. We are working hard to get the word out to folks.
Also, if you know of any farmers in need of supplies, please send them my way. We are anticipating a large load of hay and fencing supplies to be delivered as early as tomorrow. Folks will need to have the equipment to haul hay such as a wagon or trailer.
If you would like to volunteer during this effort, we can always use help at the distribution site for pickup/drop off and keeping all this organized and documented so we know who received items and who donated.
Thank you for all you do for our county!
