Welcoming our New County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences
TheLevisalazer.com would like to welcome Ms. Alivia Faris, Lawrence County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. The readers would recognize this position as the outdated Home Economics Agent but has been updated to address the changes in the traditional family unit.
The face of the home has changed over the past years and the office of the Family and Consumer Science Agent has adapted to involve and include more than just the home. This modernized version is essential in reaching out to more of the county’s residents.
Ms. Faris is from Ewing (you-ing) Ky in Fleming Co. Her proud parents are Greg and Sandy Faris of Ewing, Ky. She recently moved to Lawrence Co., from Bowling Green, after earning her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Western Kentucky University.
Alivia says she has loved Family and Consumer Science since before she even knew what is was called. She learned to sew at age five and has been a part of the Fleming Co. Extension Office since she was 9 years old.
“Everyone in Louisa has been so welcoming and reached out to me. Its been great” she said. “I am excited to be here and this is the job that I have wanted since I was 9. It’s been a lifelong dream and goal of mine. I feel very blessed.”
Ms. Faris hopes to build on the successful program already in place in Lawrence Co. Her passion for this opportunity is obvious when she talks about it.
Alivia was quick to offer the following comment regarding her short term goals.
“…I want the youth to get excited about Family and Consumer Sciences. I believe that part of my job as an Extension Agent is to build a bridge between the young and the elderly. I want to start a Junior’s Homemakers program in the future for the Middle Schools and the High School with a focus on helping them build core skills to be independent.”
Future events and workshops will include:
1) Red, White and Wellness (July 6/7)
2) The Ultimate 4H Cooking Challenge (July 14)
3) Food Preservation Workshop (July 18-20)
