Lawrence County Man Arrested After Alleged Attempted Stabbing on Torchlight Road

According to a citation from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Jeffery Allen Looney was arrested on December 9 after deputies responded to a report of a male allegedly attempting to stab his wife during a domestic incident.
Deputies say the victim reported that Looney had been drinking before the argument. She stated that when she turned away, he allegedly raised a knife in the air toward her. He ran outside and she locked the door, then contacted law enforcement.
Looney was later located inside a vehicle at Storms Auto, reportedly asleep. Officers noted slurred speech and difficulty walking when he was awakened.
Looney is charged with:
• Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree
• Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place
He was taken into custody and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Update/Correction: The original post stated that the victim ran outside. According to the citation, Looney was the one who ran outside before leaving the residence. We have corrected the post to reflect this.
