BUST CAME AFTER WEEKEND TRAFFIC STOP IN FORT GAY AREA TO ARREST PASSENGER WANTED ON DRUG WARRANTS
Wayne County Sheriff Rick Thompson announced the arrest of the suspect on multiple weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop in the Fort Gay area on Sunday morning, August 25.
According to the press release from Sheriff Thompson, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit stopped a vehicle to apprehend a passenger who was wanted on outstanding drug warrants.
During the arrest, officers seized methamphetamine and fentanyl.
As the stop was conducted, another passenger, Kyler Wayne Messer, 18, of Louisa, Kentucky; was observed attempting to hide items.
A search revealed a significant quantity of methamphetamine, baggies, and fentanyl concealed in Kyle Messer’s underwear.
A further investigation led to the discovery of five handguns, a suppressor, and multiple magazines in the trunk of the vehicle.
A large sum of cash money was also seized from Kyle Messer.

Kyle Messer is currently facing several charges, including:
- Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine,
- Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, and five counts of:
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon under 21.
Kyle Messer was taken to and lodged in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, in Cabell County, West Virginia; where he is currently being held on a $50,000 full cash bond only.
Additional charges are pending as this drug bust case investigation continues.
The suspect who was originally wanted on the outstanding drug warrants that caused the traffic stop was identified as Garland Akers Jr., 65, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, who is also being held at the Western Regional Jail on $3,000 full cash bond only.
