Louisa, Ky. — After a perfect 4-0 Class 3A District 8 record the Lawrence Co. Bulldogs earned three different awards last week.

Bulldog Head Coach Alan Short was named the Class 3A District 8 Coach of the Year for 2025 after leading his team to a District title. Coach Short also led the Dawgs to their first 9 win regular season since 2009.

Senior QB Luke Fetherolf was named the Class 3A District 8 Player of the Year for 2025. In four District games Fetherolf led his team to victories over Letcher Co. Central 57-47, Powell Co. 43-7, Estill Co. 35-0 and Magoffin Co. 55-12.

In those four contest Fetherolf completed 33 of 44 passes for 681 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Junior Ty Brooks was named the Class 3A District 8 Lineman of the Year for 2025. Brooks plays on both sides of the ball and anchors the offensive at his tackle spot that helped block for an offense that scored 387 points in the regular season and on defensive line that only allowed 186 points in ten games. In four District contests Brooks had 12 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss and 2 QB sacks.

After a first round playoff win over McCreary Central 55-14 the Dawgs will entertain 10-1 Rockcastle County this Friday night.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… It’s well documented that Luke Fetherolf is a really good football player and I’m really glad he is our quarterback. Everything that he has gotten, he has earned. And he has done it with a humble heart, he is a team guy first, he is not a me guy and super proud of him. Being selected by the District coaches is pretty special.”

“… Same can be said for Ty Brooks, quality lineman but an even better person. So very thankful for him and I know one thing for sure the coaches got that one right.”

“… As far as coach of the year, that is a staff award and not just me out there coaching these kids. I attribute that to our coaching staff and our football team.”
