4.A. Superintendent’s Update
4.A.1. Congratulations to Chief Academic Officer Dr. Myram Brady on earning a Doctor of Education degree.
4.A.2. Chase Kendrick and Presley Laney, current LCHS juniors, have been selected as Governor’s Scholars, a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky, and Ethan Preece selected as an alternate.
4.A.3. Elle Parsley, LCHS sophomore, has been selected as a Rogers Scholar; and LCHS freshman, Aubrey Brady, has been accepted into the Rogers Lead program. Three eighth graders have been selected as Rogers Explorers: Raina Harris, FES, and Jordan Gibbon and Paisley Jones, LMS. The programs focus on leadership skills and hands-on instructional training.
4.A.4. Louisa Middle and Blaine middle schools have each been awarded $40,000 KDE Mathematics Achievement Fund Mini Grants for implementation next school year. KDE’s Star Academy Grant, $1,000,000 over three years, will be implemented in Blaine’s middle school, giving access to new technology for students, new furniture, and an aligned curriculum as well as professional development for teachers. LC is one of five districts in Kentucky receiving the grant.
4.A.5. LCHS Girls Softball are the 2A Section 8 Champions and competed in the state tournament held in Owensboro over the weekend.
4.A.6. Lawrence County has two top-two finalists for state competition (each will be a first or second place) in the KDE You Belong KY! Attendance Matters Poster Contest: Ashley Maynard, LCHS, and a Louisa East Student Leaders team: Ben Burkett, Finn Compton, Saydie Blevins, and Tucker Muncy. Final winners will be announced as part of the state STLP awards ceremony on Friday, April 24, at Rupp Arena. LCHS, LMS, BES, FES, and LEES will be competing at state STLP.
4.A.7. The Blaine Elementary Art Show was a great success with commendations to Lois Slone, art and music teacher; and a great job by the LCHS Science Department on a very successful Spring Science Career Fair last week.
4.A.8. The Lawrence County Dolly Parton Imagination Library, in approximately five years, has provided 14,775 books to kids encouraging a life-long love of reading.
4.A.9. The 60-day Kentucky Legislative Session ended April 15 with the passage of more than 175 bills, including the next two-year state budget.
