Wayne, W.Va. — The Lawrence Co. youth football league went 2 for 2 at Pioneer Field Saturday and will have three teams vying for Turf Bowl titles next weekend at Marshall University.

After a scoreless first quarter Bulldog defensive back Issac Sturgill picked off a Pirate pass and set the offense up with great field position late in the first half.
On the ensuing drive Bulldog QB Tucker Muncy connected with Lucas Block on a 7 yard touchdown pass and then the two hooked up for the two point conversion to give Lawrence Co. a 8-0 lead with 19.7 seconds left before halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter the Pirates stopped the Dawgs short of a first down with about 4 minutes left in the game and drove down and scored with 22 seconds left on a 2 yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 8-6. After both teams called timeout the Pirates were stopped short of the goal line setting off a wild celebration from the Bulldog faithful as they were Turf Bowl bound.

The Dawgs avenged an earlier 6-0 loss against the Pioneers.
On the opening drive of the game Bulldog QB Carson Evans connected with Brother Fitzpatrick to set up the Dawgs in Pioneer territory and Evans finished the drive off with a touchdown from 11 yards out and it was Lawrence Co. 6-0 with 5:43 left in the first period.
On the next Bulldog possession Levi Hensley made a couple Pioneers miss and went 66 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and Jace Napier ran in the two point conversion and it was Dawgs 14-0 with 1:12 left in the opening stanza.
Early in the second quarter Wayne got on the board on a 11 yard touchdown to cut the Bulldog lead to 14-6 with 7:13 left in the first half.
After Lawrence Co. forced a punt Evans went untouched 48 yards for a touchdown and it was Dawgs 20-6 with 20.2 seconds left before half.
In the third quarter Wayne got on the board again with a 21 yard touchdown run with 2:01 left in the third quarter to make it 20-12 Lawrence Co.
With Wayne on the move early on the final quarter Brother Fitzpatrick recovered a fumble and Evans sealed a Turf bowl trip with a 54 yard touchdown jaunt to set the final score of 26-12.

Colten Bentley had a 56 yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 50 yard touchdown in the third quarter to help the Dawgs to victory.
The Bulldog defense didn’t give up a first down and Eli Block recovered a fumble .
