Many of our local communities are seeing an incline in cyclists enjoying our beautiful county and city roads as well as walkers and runners, we would like to host this event to raise awareness and educate on the laws/rules of the roads as well as the proper use of safety equipment. We would like to be able to distribute some safety equipment as well. This will be a new project but hope to make it annual. December ’22 meeting is gala at mayor’s home
The Lawrence County Tourism Committee met on Monday, December 12th, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the home of Harold and Marsha Sone. Members in attendance were Chairman Wes Kingsmore, Brenda Hardwick, Debbie Hill, Chris Jobe, Keith Chaffin and Susie Chambers.
Also in attendance were Phil Carter, Harold Slone, Marsha Slone, Eric Clevenger and Roger Gurganus
We held a brief business meeting prior to dinner. We had two items come before the board for a vote. First was the plan to have a dinner in February to thank all the volunteers from the recent car rally. A date will be announced soon. A motion was made by Brenda with a second by Debbie to sponsor this dinner. All in favor.
Next we decided to have a memory lantern release in the new year. This was approved with a motion by Susie and a second by Keith and all were in favor.
We’re hoping the Democratic Womens group will turn the Appalachian Bike Tour over to tourism. If so we could do this event in conjunction with our our bike/pedestrian event and use our grant money to cover expenses.
With no further business the business session was adjourned with a motion by Keith and a second by Brenda.
We were then treated to a delicious meal prepared by Harold and Marsha. Their home was decorated beautifully for Christmas and it was an enjoyable time. A big thank you to them for being such gracious hosts.
Our next regular meeting will be held on Monday, January 16th at 5:30 pm at the Fred Vinson Tourism office.
