Louisa, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Senior Sophie Adkins was named the KABC 15th Region Player of the Year on Friday.
Adkins averaged 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest and helped the Lady Dawgs to a 11-12 record and the #2 seed in the 58th District tournament where they will play Monday against host Betsy Layne in the second game at 8:00.
Lawrence Co., Betsy Layne and Floyd Central all went 4-2 in District play and the tie breaker was a coin flip which resulted in Floyd Central the #1 seed, Lawrence Co. the #2 seed and Betsy Layne the #3 seed. Prestonsburg was 0-6 and will be the #4 seed.
Adkins has scored 540 points this season and surpassed the 2,000 point mark for her illustrious career, she has pulled down 219 rebounds during her senior campaign.
Sophie has accomplished so many great things here at LCHS.
A few of her accomplishments are a three-time member of the 58th district team, 2 time coaches all region team. Sophie is a member of the 2000-point club, she has also surpassed 500 rebounds.
She was the 58th district player of the year her Junior year. In her time outside of basketball Sophie enjoys tanning, sleeping, being with her friends, and going to basketball games with Jaxon and Darryl.
Sophie’s plans after graduation are to attend College to earn a degree in dentistry and play basketball. Sophie’s advice to her teammates is view everything as an opportunity and never take anything for granted. Give God all the glory.
Sophie’s best memories here as a Lady Bulldog is winning the 15th region championship and playing at Rupp Arena with the best teammates.
