MOREHEAD, Ky.—The main gallery of Morehead State University’s Claypool-Young Art Building will be the site of the “Kentucky Burley-Coal Region High School Exhibition and Competition,” March 8 through 15. The annual show is organized in partnership with the Kentucky Art Education Association, and features high school artwork from the region.
The exhibition will be open for special Saturday hours on March 11 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
In association with the exhibition the Department of Art and Design hosts its annual High School Art Day scheduled on Wednesday, March 15. Schools from Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia have participated in this exciting event through demonstrations and hands-on art activities including an annual newspaper sculpture competition.
High schools participating include: Allen Central, Belfry, Betsy Layne, Boyd County, Fairview Independent, Fleming County, Greenup County, Harrison County, Hazard, Jenkins, Johnson Central, June Buchanan, Knott County, Lawrence County, Leslie County, Lewis County, Nicholas County, Paintsville, Paul Blazer, Perry County, Pike County, Powell County, Mason County, Magoffin County, Montgomery County, Raceland-Worthington, Rowan County Senior, Russell, Sheldon Clark and West Carter.
The gallery in the Claypool-Young features contemporary art for the MSU community as well as the university’s service region. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment. There is no charge for viewing and the public is invited. Parking is available on Main Street, during the day, and on the MSU campus after 5 p.m. weekdays, and all day on weekends.
