Louisa, Ky. — In an absolute barnburner the Lawrence Co. Girls soccer team came away with the Class 2A Section 8 championship over Boyd Co. on Wednesday night.

In a game that was scoreless after two overtimes and was decided on penalty kicks in favor of the SoccerDawgs 5-4 to win the championship.
On Monday Johnson Central squeaked by Lawrence Co. 4-2.
Last Thursday the SoccerDawgs lost a heartbreaker to Belfry in overtime 1-0.
Lawrence Co. will return to action with a trip on Tuesday to face Paintsville and then to Shelby Valley on Thursday.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“… It was a defensive battle all night. Both teams played their hearts out and neither team deserved to lose. We were exhausted but played harder than I have ever seen them play. There was no quit in any of our players.”
“… Boyd Co is a great team and to take them to the wire and then beat them in PKs was unbelievable. We had started the season 0-3 so we knew we needed this win to turn our season around. The team never lost focus and have bought into everything we have been practicing. We are looking forward to next week with at Paintsville on Tuesday and at Shelby Valley on Thursday before we head to Rowan Co to play the regional final of the 2A with a trip on the line to Owensboro.”
