LAWRENCE CO. BASEBALL KNOCKS OFF PAINTSVILLE TO WIN HOME OPENER

Louisa, Ky. — The Baseball Dawgs bounced back after losing opening night with a 9-4 victory over Paintsville on Tuesday evening.

L to R Brady Caudill, Logan Whisenant, Talon Pollack, Grey Derifield, Owen Pack, Cody Crum, Eli Fletcher, Tygar Cavins, Ford Scaggs, Jake Derifield, Boedy Maynard, Braxton Davis, Colin Howard, Alex Meadows, Blake Prater, Abner Collinsworth 

Senior Ford Scaggs threw an absolute gem to get the win in the Bulldogs home opener against Paintsville Tigers on Tuesday. 

Scaggs went six innings, gave up three runs, struck out nine, walked four and allowed three hits. Talon Pollack pitched the seventh inning and allowed two hits, one run and struck out four. 

Colin Howard had three hits including a double, scored two runs and drove in one, Grey Derifield had three hits, scored twice and had one RBI, Eli Fletcher had two hits including a double, scored two runs and drove in one, Logan Whisenant doubled, drove in two and scored a run, Boedy Maynard singled, Abner Collinsworth had one RBI, Cody Crum scored a run. 

2024 Bulldog Seniors

Cody Crum, Talon Pollack, Ford Scaggs, Abner Collinsworth, Blake Prater, Jake Derifield 

Greenup Co. 14 Lawrence Co. 4 ( Monday ) 

On opening night on the road Senior Jake Derifield threw 11 pitches before leaving with an injury and the Dawgs never recovered. The Musketeers scored six in the first inning before the Dawgs answered with 3 runs in the third and one in the fourth to make it 6-4. 

Greenup Co. scored 5 in the bottom of the fourth and 3 in the fifth to get the ten run victory. 

Talon Pollack homered and drove in three runs, Colin Howard singled and drove in a run, Eli Fletcher singled, Abner Collinsworth and Braxton Davis scored a run each. 

The Bulldogs will return to action with three games next week beginning with a road trip to Pikeville on Monday, and then back to back District games with Prestonsburg on Tuesday on the road and then at home on Wednesday.

“… Thought we played well against Paintsville. I was blown away on our performance on Monday. I didn’t expect that. Against Paintsville is more the way I felt we’d come out against Greenup Co. in the opener.”

“ I really thought Ford Scaggs pitched really well on Tuesday. I’m so happy for him.”
