Fort Gay, W. Va. — Lawrence Co. ( 2-1 ) fell just short in the Championship game of the BJM Tournament 63-60 against Grace Christian ( 3-0 ) Saturday night at Rebel Arena.

The Lady Dawgs trailed 20-14 after one quarter and by 10 in the second quarter before a run late in the first half made it 37-33 at half.
In the second half LCHS took the lead by four but Grace Christian stormed back and led 50-45 going into the final stanza.
Brooke Neal hit three 3 pointers late in the quarter to pull within three points and the Lady Dawgs created a late turnover but couldn’t tie the game up as the horn sounded.
All Tournament member Lexi Ratliff paced the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points including 8-8 from the charity stripe, All Tournament member Kensley Feltner tallied 17 points, Brooke Neal 14 points, Kaison Ward 5 points, Abby Nelson 4 points and Kyleah Ward 2 points.
LCHS went 17-20 from the line and hit 3 three pointers.
Grace Christian was led by Tournament MVP Hazley Matthews with 21 points, All Tournament members Emily Hutchison and Samantha Wells with 16 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Ashland Tuesday before playing their first home game of the year Friday against Betsy Layne in a District matchup at 6:00.

“… Defensively way too many breakdowns, we just can’t give away possessions. We have do a better job and we will get back to work on Monday to get ready for Ashland and our home district opener against Betsy Layne.”
“… These games like this will help us. We have beefed up our schedule in hopes it will make us tougher come tournament time. We are battling some injuries right with Brooke and Kensley but no rest for the weary.”
