Treasurer Metcalf: STABLE Kentucky Expands Opportunities for Lawrence County Families with Disabilities
FRANKFORT, Ky (December 8, 2025) – Across Kentucky, individuals with disabilities are gaining financial independence through STABLE Kentucky. Yet in Lawrence County, no one has enrolled in the program. State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf is encouraging families to take advantage of this opportunity.
“Every eligible Kentuckian should know about STABLE Kentucky,” said Treasurer Metcalf. “These accounts can be life-changing — providing security and independence while protecting critical benefits like Medicaid and SSI.”
STABLE Kentucky, the state’s version of the federal ABLE program, is a savings and investment account that helps families build long-term security while protecting essential benefits. Key benefits of the program include:
- Save up to $19,000 per year without affecting Medicaid or SSI
- Earnings grow tax-free and can be used for disability-related expenses
- Five investment options or an FDIC-insured savings account
- Account owned by the individual, can be managed by a parent or guardian
“Even one account in a county can make a difference,” said Jordyn Pennington, Director of STABLE Kentucky. “Once families see the benefits, more people begin to explore STABLE Kentucky as a path to long-term financial independence. We want every eligible Kentuckian to know this option exists.”
