DOUBLE DEAD-TROUBLE OVER THE WEEKEND IN THE COALFIELDS:
KENTUCKY STATE POLICE LAUNCH SEPARATE DEATH INVESTIGATIONS AFTER HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN SEPARATE AREAS OF SOUTHWEST PIKE COUNTY
BOTH BODIES WERE DISCOVERED IN CREEK WATER STREAMS JUST OVER 24 HOURS & 24 MILES APART
AUGUST 2, 2023 – written by WADE QUEEN
The final weekend of July ended in a macabre fashion in the same close proximity area of Pike County, KY., as two deceased human remains were found two days in a row in two separate cases, according to state police officials.
In the first discovery case, according to the Kentucky State Police Post 9, in Pikeville, KY., they were notified just before 4:00 P.M., on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in reference to possible human remains discovered in the Elkhorn City community of southwestern Pike County.
The initial KSP investigation indicated human skeletal remains were located in a stream near Cougar Drive in Pike County. The remains were removed by the Pike County Coroner’s Office and will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for identification.
Anyone who may have information about this investigation is asked to contact Kentucky State Police Post 9 at (606)-433-7711.
KSP Post 9 Detective Joseph Coleman is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by KSP personnel.
In the second discovery case, according to Kentucky State Police Post 9, in Pikeville, KY., they are conducting another death investigation after the body of a deceased male was located in the Jonancy community of Pike County.
Jonancy is around 26.5 miles west of Elkhorn City, were the first human remains were found, mainly via State Highway 3714.
KSP Pikeville Post 9 received the call on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 6:24 P.M., where the caller advised where the possible deceased male had been located.
KSP Post 9 investigators responded to the area. Their initial investigation indicated that the deceased male, who was identified as Nathan Kyle Worrix, 37, of Robinson Creek, KY., was located in a stream near State Highway 610 West in the Jonancy community. Worrix’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The cause of death is under investigation.
NOW DECEASED: NATHAN KYLE WORRIX, 37, OF ROBINSON CREEK, IN PIKE COUNTY, KENTUCKY.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the KSP Pikeville Post at 606-433-7711.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Detective Joseph Coleman. Detective Coleman was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel.
Interestingly, continuing with creek water stream themes, Nathan Worrix was arrested after a police vehicle chase, in late June 2019, after fleeing in his vehicle after not stopping to be pulled over by state trooper Pikeville, KY. The chase ended when he jumped out of his vehicle while it was still moving, running over on foot over a riverbank, and jumping into the river, swimming across it only to be caught by Pikeville Police Department officers when he came out of the river. He was arrested and was charged with numerous felony, misdemeanor, and motor traffic vehicle violations from that incident.
Nathan Worrix had a lengthy criminal record, mainly in Pike County, and was arrested as recently as May 20, 2023, aft
I understand that you are trying to keep readers informed but I think that it is disrespectful to post the person’s mugshot and criminal history as part of the article about his death. Him evading arrest by jumping into a river in 2019 has absolutely nothing to do with his remains being found in a creek in 2023. I find your writing unprofessional and distasteful. You need a lesson in empathy and how to show respect to the bereaved family. Idk this person but my condolences, love, and prayers go out to his friends and family.
I agree whole heartedly! His mugshot nor his arrest reports have nothing to do with his death. Let his family greave without all the drama.
I do agree with this too that this shouldn’t be about his criminal records or anything they always got to make someone look like a bad person
I agree with these comments,I didn’t know him either. But this is very disrespectful to his family.prayers for Mr Worrix family.this is the worst news that any family member could ever get.then to read this right after hearing the news.its just very disrespectful to his family.
Agree 100% Amy –
The most important rule is that we must treat people fairly and with respect. We must also be clear about our own motives. We must have no personal interest in an investigation that invades a person’s privacy. The only justification is that it is in the public interest and we are genuinely trying to expose wrongdoing. I think they missed the “mark” on this article.
Exactly what in the h*** does his past criminal record have to do with him being found dead in a creek……excellent journalism.🙄 Regardless of his criminal history,he was somebody’s son, husband ,father, brother ect…I know you have a job to do but can’t it be done with some compassion and a little more class.
Signed Sissy M
How could anyone be so disrespectful as to post an article about someone’s criminal record while announcing an investigation into their death !! No respect for those he left behind and make no mistake,he was loved and called friend by many. How dare you ! No decorum or decency! Shame on you !
Explain what a creek water stream is. It’s either a creek or a stream. This is not a story about kool aid so no need to add water. We all know what a creek or stream looks like but the phrase “creek water streams” is annoying.
I also agree with the other commenters, his criminal history is irrelevant to this story.
I can’t believe that you think it’s okay to post his background. There is nothing about him being a husband or a father of three. He was an amazing person who had problems just like everyone else did. That should not define who he was. He was also a son brother uncle friend he would give you the shirt off his back even if it was his only one. This is just wrong I sure hope his family doesn’t read this.
1st off this is my brother in law and u should have the all facts about someone b4 u just blast they past wtf does that have 2 do with him being found dead???? U have disrespected my whole family especially my sister and nephews who just lost their husband and father.. I think this post needs 2 b taken down or rewritten either 1, that will do him justice..because this sure as he’ll dont.. just because someone has a past don’t mean a DAMN THING!!!!!
I agree 💯 percent with you on that I also think the person that wrote this should have compassion for him and the family no matter what the back ground or his past was. We all have a past let’s leave it there
II agree 💯 with you. This mans life is being dragged thru the mud, pics of mugshots across the web is no way to do a person or that person’s family. I don’t think it’s right to publish everything wen it comes to a person’s arrest either. I can understand the news announcement as usual but n the area I live it’s bad for nosey and judgemental people. I see people names in the newspaper everytime they appear in front of a judge. The plea day entering a not guilty plea would mean that the person feels they are not right? Well from what I see it’s never not guilty until proven guilty. It’s guilty until proven innocent. My name appeared monthly like I was a repeat offender, after 9 months of being judged by everyone I plead guilty in front of the judge knowing I was not. I even told him that I was pleading guilty because I was tired of my name being in the newspaper every month looking like I was a repeat offender. I have seen people lose their jobs over this one newspaper that posts every arrest every court date every indictment and is wrong in my opinion.
Let post you and or someone’s background when they pass then see if think it’s fair or gonna get u anywhere in ur career! Who cares that he ran from the police they scare the shit outta people knowing they can and will do as they please! This is exactly why nobody that stays around this place can never change! People like u won’t let them! It’s very sad!!
U know karma is a funny thing and this person that thinks what they are doing is ok to get more readers on this page what goes around comes around no one needed to know of his past to read this story I hope his family reads it and gets so upset they do something about it I’m
Upset and don’t even know him so yes indeed I hope they get to face the very one put this out there about there loved one that is now past away
Here’s my thing he’s my uncle and I love him so very much him having a record don’t mean crap he’s was the best person ever and he would do anything for anyone and the news posting this is disgusting he never hurt anyone like I said he was the best uncle ever
I agree his background has nothing to do with his death and no matter what he has done in his past his family deserves the respect to be able to grieve. My heart goes out to the family my prayers are with yall
This shouldn’t have his criminal background because it’s about another crime committed against him by someone else. That is what the topic should be here. A dead man can’t defend himself and his record has no need of being brought up.
Wow. There are a lot of journalists on here. Seems that even though his death and criminal record MAY/MAY NOT be related they would just as soon not know. It has nothing to do with respect/disrespect. You folks always find something to complain about. Must be democrats. Just start your own online newspaper if you don’t like it.
