Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland Investigating Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian
Ashland, Ky. (November 29, 2016) – The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland is investigating a fatal vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred at 3730 State Route 2 in Greenup County, KY.
The collision occurred around 2:21 PM today. Janice Gullett, age 72, of Greenup, KY was operating a 1995 Cadillac and traveling westbound on State Route 2. As Gullett approached the residence at 3730 the vehicle she was operating traveled off the westbound shoulder of the roadway and struck a fence. The vehicle continued westbound onto the gravel driveway at 3730 State Route 2 and struck a parked 2001 Chevrolet truck. Gullett’s vehicle then struck Earnest Bying Johnson, age 66, of 3730 State Route 2 and came to final rest after striking a garage at the residence. At the time of the collision Johnson was between the parked Chevrolet and his garage.
Johnson was transported to Our Lady of Bellfonte Hospital for life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at 3:19 PM.
Gullett was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, but did receive minor injuries. She was transported to Our Lady of Bellfonte Hospital treated for her injuries and released.
Multiple agencies responded including Greenup County Sheriff’s Department, Little Sandy Fire Department, Greenup County EMS and the Greenup County Coroner’s Office.
At this time the cause of the collision and any possible drug or alcohol involvement is still under investigation. Any criminal charges are currently pending completion of the investigation.
