TWO HOMICIDES IN 18 HOURS ROCKS ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, KENTUCKY:

KENTUCKY STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE TWO SEPARATE MURDERS IN ROCKCASTLE COUNTY; TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED

FIRST DEADLY CASE HAPPENED ON SUNDAY BY SHOOTING; SECOND CASE HAPPENED ON MONDAY INVOLVED STABBING DEATH, BOTH SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY JUST TWENTY MINUTES APART!

TWO MEN, EACH COMMITTING A DIFFERENT MURDER IN THE SAME COUNTY: CLAYTON DUANE COX, (PHOTO TOP), 49, OF MOUNT VERNON, KENTUCKY; WAS ARRESTED MONDAY AFTERNOON BY STATE POLICE FOR A SHOOTING DEATH ON SUNDAY IN LIVINGSTON, KY. TERRY LEE BURKE, 54, OF LIVINGSTON, KY., WAS ALSO ARRESTED BY STATE POLICE MONDAY AFTERNOON, FOR A SEPARATE HOMICIDE IN LIVINGSTON ON MONDAY, THAT INVOLVED A SHOOTING DEATH.

Two separate murder cases that happened around 18 hours apart in the same tiny town with a population of just around 160 residents have shaken that area in Rockcastle Castle for the end of the month of April.
 

According to Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, in Laurel County, KY., the first homicide case happened when on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at approximately 5:25 PM, KSP Post 11 was notified by Rockcastle County 911 of a welfare check on Goochland Cave Road in Rockcastle County.Upon the arrival, troopers located a deceased male from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as Joshua L. Dooley, 43, of Mount Vernon, Ky.  Mr. Dooley was pronounced deceased by the Rockcastle County Coroner. Joshua Dooley’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

As a result of their investigation, KSP Detectives began attempting to locate a person of interest, Clayton Duane Cox, 49, of Mount Vernon, KY.

On Monday afternoon, April 29, KSP Post 11 troopers London arrested Clayton Cox, and he was charged with:

* MURDER,

*POSSESSION OF HANDGUN BY A CONVICTED FELON, and

*TAMPERING WITH PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. two counts

Clayton Duane Cox was transported to and logged at 4:18 P.M., in the Rockcastle County Detention Center in Mount Vernon, where is being held on a seven hundred fifty thousand ($750,000) cash/property bond.
This murder investigation is continuing by KSP Post 11 Detective Ryan Loudermilk.  He was assisted at the scene by KSP Post 11 personnel, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, Rockcastle County EMS and Rockcastle County Coroner.

In the second homicide case, on Monday, April 29, 2024, at approximately 11:40 A.M., KSP Post was notified by Rockcastle County 911 that an anonymous caller had called and advised a male subject had been shot on Sandhill Road in Rockcastle County.Upon arrival, troopers located a deceased male from apparent gunshot wounds lying in the roadway. The victim was identified as Benjamin F. Jones Jr., 54, of Livingston, KY.  Benjamin Jones Jr.was pronounced deceased by the Rockcastle County Coroner. Benjamin Jones Jr.’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

KSP Post 11 London located Terry Lee Burke, 54, of Livingston, KY., on Misty Lane in Mount Vernon, KY., and he was arrested by KSP Post Detective Ryan Loudermilk for *MURDER.

Terry Lee Burke was transported to and logged at 4:38 P.M., in the Rockcastle County Detention Center in Mount Vernon, where is being held on a seven hundred fifty thousand ($750,000) cash/property bond.

This murder investigation is continuing by KSP Post 11 Detective Aaron Peace.  He was assisted at the scene by KSP Post 11 personnel, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, Rockcastle County EMS and Rockcastle County Coroner.
