Found out this week that Ft. Gay city hall has a person (Andrea) to answer the phone when people call about city business. She’s great! The new administration headed by mayor Bob Sword has set up a Facebook page with the beginnings of the new group now running the city featured.

Ft. Gay residents voted in Sword as mayor as well as Recorder Wade Cyrus
City Council Members:
– Jamie Frasher
– Greg Cavins
– Wilts Salmons
– Payton Rowe
– Bob Daniels
Municipal Judge: Larry Britt

The spokesperson said the new mayor was “extremely busy in a financial meeting” and could not take our call for interview. He promised a call back soon and when he does we will let everyone know how he plans to change the local government to an efficient office overseen by elected members and other residents. And how to get at least some of the $370,000 in estimated stolen money back.

Found out months ago that Louisa doesn’t have a clerk although one was hired when Kathy Compton retired. Never got to meet her and since she’s gone her name is meaningless to this post.

But the situation has left assistant clerk Rita Rose in place and she refuses to accept the clerk’s position for a reason she has not shared with the public. So, we have an assistant doing the work of the absent clerk. I wonder if the city clerk has an official responsibilities and has to sign off on anything. Think I’ll ask attorney for the city Eldred “Bud” Adams since he is the sharpest lawyer in these parts…

He replied:

“…I don’t know why Rita refused the city clerk job, but that is her business and her business alone.  It is my understanding that she is comfortable where she is. Both Rita and the Mayor sign checks so there are always two signatures. On rare occasions when the  Mayor is not available I have co-signed checks with  Rita. The City gets a clean audit every year. Those audits are a matter of public record if you want to look at them.”

Hey guys, just wondering…

Found out last week that LC Super Katie Webb has a fine reputation as an educator and leader in the area.  So, couldn’t wait for her response when I asked her about the new state laws concerning cell phones and social media use — she sent a copy of the letter prepared for the public.

With the legaleze added, I had a hard time getting a good grasp of what it says, First, I know social media is not to be used in schools according to the law, but then turns around and says “unless it is an assignment by a teacher” so there you go. Same thing as usual.

Wondering if the barrage of social media memes and posts will continue from the school system? Is that part of the ban on parent notification of media use on a certified platform?

Commissioner Rob Fletcher is also a prolific X user, wonder how that will be affected, if at all? Should it be?
