Pleasureville woman arrested in cockfighting case

A second person from Pleasureville has been arrested on animal cruelty charges on Thursday.
Deanna Smith, 37, was arrested around 9 a.m. Thursday on charges of second degree unlawful transaction with a minor, trafficking marijuana (less than 8 ounces), drug paraphernalia (buy/possess), second degree cruelty to animals and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Smith was arrested after her husband, Jeremy Allen Osburn, was arrested April 8 on charges of second degree unlawful transaction with a minor; fourth degree assault (domestic violence) against Smith, according to a citation; trafficking marijuana (less than 8 ounces); drug paraphernalia buy and possess; 14 charges of second degree cruelty to animals; endangering the welfare of a minor and third degree terroristic threatening.
Henry County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Josh Jamiel was contacted by a school counselor at an unknown Henry County school on April 8. The counselor was initially contacted by a 16-year-old, who is the daughter of Smith.
The unnamed 16-year-old told her counselor that Osburn abused Smith on April 7 and had audio of the arguments. The teenager also told the deputy that Osburn engaged in cockfighting and had her help him with the training for the alleged abuse of the animals.
When Deputy Jamiel went to Osburn’s Castle Highway address, the residence smelled strongly of marijuana, according to an arrest citation. Osburn admitted to slapping Smith on the arm “more than once” during an argument, according to the citation.
After a search warrant was obtained for the residence, animal control was called in and found evidence of cock fighting, including medication, spurs and roosters cooped for fighting, according to the citation. Sheriff’s deputies also found marijuana, guns, over $5,000 in cash and paraphernalia.
Osburn posted a $5,000 cash bond on Tuesday. His arraignment is scheduled for 9:04 a.m. on April 24. Smith is currently at the Oldham County Detention Center.
