SEARCH FOR DANGEROUS MAN RELEASED FROM JAIL AFTER INITIAL ARREST DUE TO RECENT-INDICTMENT

FEBRUARY 18, 2026 – written by WADE QUEEN

WANTED: MARTY EUGENE HURLEY, 50, OF STOPOVER, KENTUCKY; WAS INDICTED LAST MONTH IN PIKE COUNTY, KY., ON SEVEN (7) MAJOR FELONY CHARGES, INVOLVING A VIOLENT CRIMINAL CASE HE COMMITTED AT THE END OF MAY 2025.

The Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville, KY. are asking for help from the public for information on the whereabouts of a Pike County, KY. man who was recently indicted over allegations he tried to kill three people by locking them in a burning trailer remains free and has now been featured as one of the KSP “Wanted Wednesday” public awareness campaigns.

Marty Eugene Hurley, 50, of Stopover, KY., was indicted in January 2026 on three counts of attempted murder, three counts of kidnapping and one count of first-degree arson. The arson charge is the most serious, a Class A felony carrying a potential sentence of twenty (20) years to life in prison. Each of the remaining charges are Class B felonies, which are punishable by ten (10) to twenty (20) years in prison.

Marty Hurley is accused of holding two women and a man at gunpoint with an AR-15-style rifle on May 30, 2025, and forcing them into a mobile home. Once inside, Marty Hurley allegedly began setting fires and told them he would kill them if they tried to leave. Marty Hurley then reportedly left and barricaded the door. The victims escaped after Marty Hurley left, but they suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns. One of the women had to be intubated due to severe smoke inhalation.

Because more than 60 days passed before he was indicted, Marty Hurley was released from jail on October 8, 2025. After his recent indictment, a warrant for his arrest was issued on January 21, 2026, but he has not been arrested since that time.

Marty Hurley is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and that he has blue eyes. If anyone has any information about the whereabouts of Marty  Hurley, you are asked to contact the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville at (606) 433-7711.
