Kentucky State Police Post 11 Trooper Plays Pivotal Role in Rescue of Injured Bald Eagle

LONDON, Ky. (August 1, 2026) — A Kentucky State Police (KSP) Trooper played a pivotal role in the rescue of a bald eagle. On June 30, 2026, the Kentucky State Police Post 11 London received a call about a juvenile bald eagle that was in distress and unable to fly near Collins Ln. in Corbin, KY. Trooper Trey Lovins responded, located the animal, and was able to capture the bald eagle.

After being able to effectively capture the animal, KSP Post 11 made contact with Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge, Liberty Nature Center, out of Somerset, KY, who specialized in rehabilitating raptors and birds of prey. Trooper Lovins transported the bald eagle to the nature center and released it into their care.

Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge cared for the eagle, was able to rehab him, and on July 31, 2026, they were able to release him back to the wild. The young eagle was named “Trooper” in honor of the role that Trooper Lovins played in his rescue. KSP Troopers, along with Lake Cumberland Refuge employees and volunteers, were present at “Trooper’s” release on Laurel Lake near the Holly Bay beach.
