ARREST CITATION GIVES FULLER ACCOUNT OF POLICE CHASE, VEHICLE FIRE AND SUSBSEQUENT 14 CHARGES
The reported hit and run Monday led to a police chase that ended in a vehicle fire at the Kentucky Enterprise Industrial Park.
According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police Post 9 received a call about a hit and run crash on US 23, near Dorton, Monday afternoon. As troopers responded, dispatchers informed them the truck involved in the crash was fleeing the scene.
Troopers say another vehicle was almost hit by the fleeing truck and the driver of that vehicle called in after following the truck to the industrial park, saying the truck “had blown a tire.
The driver, later identified as Timothy Bolden, 49, of Jenkins, KY., was located by troopers and reportedly “failed to yield and continued up Industrial Park Road.” as troopers attempted to stop the truck.
“Myself and trooper (Joseph) Slone then alternated pulling alongside the vehicle and instructing the operator Timothy Bolden to stop his vehicle,” wrote trooper Dylan Chapman. “The operator was observed with a thousand yard stare and did not reply to commands.”
Troopers deployed “stop sticks,” which deflated the front tire. However, they said, the truck continued fleeing off of the paved road and into a muddy area.
Once stuck in the mud, troopers say Timothy Bolden kept his foot on the accelerator, “causing the vehicle to catch fire.”
“The operator failed to exit the vehicle once the fire began, forcing myself, Trooper Joseph Slone, Trooper Ricky Newsome, and several units from Pikeville Police Department to remove [him] from the vehicle for his safety,” the citation said. “Due to his inability to speak, the operator appeared catatonic.”
The Pikeville Fire Department responded to address the truck fire.
Timothy Bolden was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and blood testing, and we eventually then took him to the Pike County Detention Center
The troopers said an investigation confirmed Timothy Bolden was involved in two separate collisions before the police chase.
