Schools across the Commonwealth are honoring the memory of Lucy Nash, a 9-year-old girl that passed away after suddenly collapsing at school.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV) — Across Kentucky, you’ll find hundreds of posts of schools honoring Lucy Nash in their pink clothes.

It’s a simple act of kindness, the same kindness that Lucy’s family says she carried in this world.

On the first day of school, 9-year-old Lucy Nash’s heart suddenly stopped beating.

As her family tried to make sense of the unexpected situation, the Henderson community came together by showing support.

Schools, businesses, and families all wore pink for Lucy Nash.

Tuesday, Lucy Nash passed away, however, schools across the commonwealth are wearing their shades of pink to support the 4th grader.

Daisy Eckels, Lucy Nash’s grandmother, says, “All the school systems, all the teachers, all of the church family, just the stores and businesses, we just, it’s amazing. Just truly amazing people in Kentucky.”

Lucy’s family says the kindness displayed by so many strangers has been overwhelming, but it’s the same kindness Lucy poured into the world.

A bright pink celebration of Lucy’s life will be held at Preston Arts Center on the campus of Henderson Community College on August 24 at 11 a.m. with a private burial to follow.
