Kentucky Power Winter Storm Preparation
Thursday, December 22, 11:30 a.m.
Weather
Forecasts are predicting arctic temperatures and precipitation, wind, rain and/or snow for many areas of eastern Kentucky through Sunday, Dec. 25.
Summary
Extreme cold, 24 hours of sustained wind in the range of 20-30 mph, and gusts much higher in the range of 40-50 mph, will likely be the biggest threat for outages. The dangerously cold temperatures are a concern for customers, so everyone is urged to make a plan. Should outages occur, crews will be working through the holiday weekend to get everyone restored as quickly as possible.
Storm Response Efforts
Kentucky Power personnel and business partners have been preparing since Monday and will be ready to assess damage and restore power when it is safe to do so.

Non-perishable food and a manual can opener
If you plan to use a generator, make sure you are following the manufacturers’ instructions and following all safety recommendations.
