Summary:
A windstorm on Friday, September 27, caused extensive damage to electrical facilities throughout Kentucky Power’s service territory leaving 44,000 customers without power at the peak of the event. More than 1,000 Kentucky Power personnel, business partners and external resources, including hundreds of out-of-state crews have been working to restore power.
Restoration:
Crews were able to achieve their goal to restore power to at least 95 percent of customers last night. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 customers without power due to the storm. Remaining outage cases are small clusters of customers, and many are located in areas which are truck inaccessible, requiring manual work in a mountainous and heavily forested terrain. As of this morning, crews have found 137 broken poles, 734 spans of wire down, 96 cross arms and 52 transformers.
