God’s Food Pantry serves residents in Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, Letcher, Magoffin and parts of Martin counties
PRESTONSBURG, Ky., March 21, 2017 – Kentucky Power on Tuesday delivered $25,000 to God’s Pantry Food Bank. The grant from the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation and Kentucky Power will be used to assist those in need in eastern Kentucky through the organization’s Prestonsburg warehouse.
“We know that one in six residents in Kentucky struggles with hunger,” said Kentucky Power President Matt Satterwhite. “This grant to God’s Pantry can provide for 200,000 meals. Supporting God’s Pantry and the work the food bank does is one way Kentucky Power and the AEP Foundation can help fight hunger in our communities.”
So far in fiscal year 2017, God’s Pantry has supplied 1.8 million pounds of food for 1.5 million meals through its Prestonsburg warehouse. The warehouse serves residents in Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, Letcher, Magoffin and parts of Martin counties. These counties also are served by Kentucky Power. The food warehouse houses orders until local distribution agencies can pick them up for distribution and also has direct loads of produce delivered for agencies to access. The warehouse has served eastern Kentucky for 29 years.
“The team at God’s Pantry Food Bank is grateful for this $25,000 gift from AEP and Kentucky Power, “said Michael Halligan, executive director of God’s Pantry. “A caring community of passionate agencies, volunteers and donors are a key ingredient to addressing hunger in the neighborhoods where people work and live. The use of these funds will have a profound impact on those who are hungry across eastern Kentucky.”
