WHAT: Kentucky Power is partnering with WYMT to host the fourth annual Power Up the Pantry event, a day-long food drive at three locations in eastern Kentucky.
Area businesses and individuals are encouraged to drop off donations throughout the day to help replenish area food bank supplies.
Donations benefit God’s Pantry Food Bank, which serves food pantries in Hazard, Pikeville and Prestonsburg; and Facing Hunger Food Bank, which serves food pantries in northeast Kentucky, including the greater Ashland area and surrounding counties.
WHY: Organizers want to the community to come together in effort to replenish depleted food supplies at local pantries across eastern Kentucky, where food insecurity has increased by 23 percent in some areas. The goal is to help drive community support that enables these food banks to respond to the high rate of food insecurities in the counties they serve, especially with the winter season coming up.
