Karen June Myer, age 87, passed away at her home in Fort Gay, West Virginia on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 after a battle with metastatic cancer. She was born on September 21, 1938 to John Gordon Smith and Corinne Smith.
Karen was a 1956 graduate of Fort Gay High School and a member of Fort Gay Baptist Church. She was an entrepreneur who owned Dick’s Pizza and BridgeMart in Fort Gay through the 1980’s and 90’s.
Karen enjoyed crafting, painting, reading, gardening and travel, but what she loved the most was spending time with her Grandchildren: Morgan Stansberry (fiancé, Mario Martinez), Megan Stansberry (fiancé, Joshua Ramey), Sophia Sapienza and Sydney Sapienza and Great-Grandchildren: Kaden Martinez, Mila Martinez,, Cooper Ramey and Cashton Ramey. She is survived by her daughters Susan Sapienza (husband, Sam Sapienza) of New Jersey and Shawna Stansberry (fiancé, Shane Blankenship) of Louisa, Kentucky; Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved very much.
The family would like to thank all of Karen’s friends in Fort Gay and those on Facebook for being an important part of her life.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM at Young Funeral Home. Karen’s funeral service will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Fort Gay Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Preston and Tom Baisden officiating. Burial will follow in Billups Gap Cemetery.
