UPDATE:
Gov. Beshear Presents More Than $9.2 Million to Lawrence County for Career and Technical Education
Funding will support renovation and expansion of county’s Local Area Vocational Education Center
LOUISA, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2021) – Today, Gov. Andy Beshear presented $9,280,350 to Lawrence County Schools to support the renovation and expansion of the county’s vocational school.
“Our economy is on fire. Manufacturing and technology are moving the commonwealth forward. So now more than ever, Kentucky needs a multifaceted and skilled workforce to support this development,” said Gov. Beshear. “Career and technical education is an essential part of building that workforce and giving each of our students a strong foundation.”
In the project funding application, school officials say the current Career and Technical Education program is held within a few classrooms in the current county high school. Because of limited space, the course offerings and student enrollment are also limited. The renovation and building expansion will change that. When finished, there will be new and improved spaces for agricultural education, computer science, coal technology, construction and carpentry, along with a greenhouse and distance-learning lab.
“I know first-hand how important it is for students to have up-to-date tools, equipment and technology in the classroom,” said Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman. “Lawrence County students will soon have those new resources and improved opportunities to prepare for the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
“This is a great day for Lawrence County and its students,” said state Sen. Phillip Wheeler, who represents five counties including Lawrence County. “Vocational education can provide for quick entry into good-paying jobs and provide a solid basis for further economic development. I am proud of work done by General Assembly and Gov. Beshear to make this important project happen for Lawrence County.”
“The funding for the Lawrence County Vocational Educational Center is a huge win,” said state Rep. Patrick Flannery, who represents Carter and Lawrence counties. “The educational opportunities will change lives and improve our economy and workforce.”
“This grant will give us the opportunity to enhance the career and technical programs that we currently offer at Lawrence County High School while adding a computer science pathway and a distance learning lab,” said Dr. Robbie Fletcher, Lawrence County Schools superintendent. “We are thankful for these funds that will help us in accomplishing our mission to personalize learning that inspires students to dream, challenges students to persist and equips students to succeed.”
On Sept. 1, as part of his Better Kentucky Plan, Gov. Beshear awarded Kentucky school districts $75 million to upgrade Local Area Vocational Education Centers. The grants were approved by the Kentucky School Facilities Construction Commission Board. To learn more, see the full release.
Through a bipartisan agreement with legislators, the Governor’s Better Kentucky Plan aims to create 14,500 jobs and will help Kentucky lead into the future. The plan allocates more than $750 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to build schools, expand access to broadband and deliver clean drinking water and quality sewer systems across the commonwealth.
LOUISA, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Schools Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher announced today that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear will make a visit to LCHS tomorrow (Friday) to bring the check for a new vocational facility for the system.
Fletcher has been a proponent of voc-ed and this new plug should be just what the county needs, He said last week that this facility will help in local economic development by providing training for employees.
“You bring the factory in and we will train the workers,” Fletcher said at a recent fiscal court meeting.

I wonder if Governor Andy Beshear saw what happened in VA? The news don’t report it but VA flipped 50 seats in the statehouse and senate from blue to red, giving Republicans control of the state house and 3 votes shy in the senate. The GOP is coming for you ANDY!
Flipped 50 seats ? What are you smoking ?
Yes idiot 50 seats. BSNBC must be lying to you!
Don’t think they flipped 50 seats now they did win back the majority by a small margin I think they have a 1 vote majority. Where you getting your so called 50 seat flip at you need to stay away from it
I get my information from facts I don’t pull it from my a–, like you.
Phil do you know the difference between FLIP and WON ? And you are calling people Idiots can’t make this stuff up

Liberal web site, based in Denver and DC, really kag, really?
Good job Andy keep up with the good work unlike the last governor who gave away $15 million dollars for a plant in Boyd county that we are still waiting on.
Wasn’t that Bevin that give the money away? Yes it was.
YES it was in Fact $15 million now that’s a crime
Exactly
Make sure to make this your political playground again Heath Preston. It really shows your true character.
Why shouldn’t he, everyone knows he got the money.
High school vocational schools are not very productive. Very few if any go on to use what they learn in these classes. A great place to learn to dip tobacco.
In today’s economy learning a trade is a very smart move
In today’s US, sending your children to school is foolish. They are taught mostly lies and immorality. All parents should home school. Mothers should stay home and instill parental values and godliness in their children while the father works. God is starting to open the eyes of the people. That’s why Va lost 50 seats. Ky is next. The demonrats platform is all about immorality, starting with abortion and same sex marriage.
Nailed it!
Good point Augerdog!
I thought you loved the Biden economy?
You’re right, keeping it real. Vocational classes in high schools are not successful. Very, very few ever utilize what they “learned” in those classes other than how to use tobacco.
Why in the world would anyone complain about educational funding for Eastern Kentucky? Putting tools in the hands of students is our future. I am a conservative Christian I don’t agree with all the things the Governor stands for, but at least he cares about the education of Eastern Kentucky kids. Rocky Adkins is a catalyst in helping US! Not Louisville, or Lexington only. Dr. Fletcher has been in the trenches teaching 7th grade math to Martin County students and was very successful at knowing what his students needed and they loved him for it! I don’t know if we will ever see this kind of support from the nay-sayers.
As a retired teacher (and I do thank you), people are not opposed to education, but the type of education being taught today. CRT is a radical dream that’s being fed to the youth, a little at a time. Andy wants to indoctrinate east KY first, since much of central and west counties already are. That’s his true plan, not education. Just my opinion.
What is CRT Phil can you explain it and who is teaching it ? I think this is something the republicans have made up and is campaigning on it just like their so called defund the police tactic. It’s working so i guess the truth doesn’t mean anything anymore to the republican party.
It’s an alter-view of American History inserted a little at a time (so people dont notice). It presumes a false reality that blacks played a far far more important role in building this nation; while eluding to a phantasy that white people should be subserviant to blacks for past situation(s). White guilt is it’s core. I’m White, and don’t feel guilty, for which and all things that happened in and before 1860. I know not one person today that owes anyone anything. Changing history was one of Hitler’s favorite things.
It is “Critical Race Theory” and it teaches white people to feel guilty and apologize for being white. It is not being taught in Kentucky schools, but Phil and Augerdog wouldn’t know anything about that. They’ve never seen the inside of a school!
You were a little late Joe C! What does that (C) stand for? Communist maybe? I see you like to run people down, to appear smart, well you are Joe C, a smart a–.
CRT is “Critical Race Theory” and it teaches white kids to be sorry and ashamed that they are white. It is not being taught here. Phil and Augerdog wouldn’t know. I doubt they’ve ever seen the inside of a school building before.
I believe it’s just another political lie they can run on BUT it’s working why stop if you don’t care about the truth.
You need to speak for yourself Mr.
My vote is for Phillip Carter! (can’t post on the story above.)
Phil YES
You sure support a lot of Republicans, for a Democrat and that’s a bit odd? You can’t vote in a Republican primary if you are a registered Communist. I’ll bet you ain’t even registered to vote!
Phil maybe I am a register republican has that every cross that little brain you have ?
No, I suspect you just never registered, may have been too tired or had an appointment at the stamp office. fjb.
Phil Carter is Lawrence Counties Joe Biden been around for 45 years and done nothing.
Watch Fox News and educate yourself. If you’re watching fake news NBC,CBS,ABC. No wonder you haven’t heard of CRT. LETS GO BRANDON!!!
Lot of truth there Brandon, fjb.
Brandon and Phil you do know Fox News said Biden won the election and Trump lost
Only a mental retard thinks that old fool won the 2020 election, oh wait you are one! fjb.
Phil Fox News declared him the winner what else would you want ?
I never said FOX was perfect! fjb.
Phil that’s right you did say Fox was not perfect but you did agree with Brandy that if you watch Fox you will educate yourself and theirs a lot of truth on Fox
