GOD TOLD HIM (OR WAS IT THE WEED HE SMOKED?) TO COMMIT GRAND THEFT AUTO : TRACY RAY COFFEY, 52, OF SALYERSVILLE, KENTUCKY
A Magoffin County, Kentucky man was arrested very recently in Johnson County, KY., after he reportedly told police officers that God wanted him to steal a car.

According to the arrest report by the Paintsville Police Department,on early Monday evening, June 9, officers were called to an attempted carjacking on Second Street in Paintsville. The auto theft was unsuccessful, but witnesses gave the police officers a description of the suspect and pointed the direction in which he fled.

A short time later, officers found a male culprit matching that description, who was identified as Tracy Ray Coffey, 52, of Salyersville, KY. The intended carjack victim was brought to the scene, and whereupon he positively identified Tracy Coffey as the person who attempted to steal his car.

According to the police arrest report,Tracy Coffey told the police officers that he had recently been baptized and “claimed that the Lord had placed it on his heart to take the vehicle.” Tracy Coffey reportedly also then admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

Tracy Ray Coffey was arrested by Paintsville Police Department officer Justin Jackson, and was charged with *CARJACKING, *PUBLIC INTOXICATION-CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (EXCLUDES ALCOHOL), *DISORDELY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE, and *MENACING.  The carjacking charge is the most serious offense, which is a class B felony, and for which is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Tracy Coffey was transported to and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville; where he has later since been released from the jail after posting his bond.
