Lawrence County Tourism Meeting, May 19, 2025 Minutes

Prepared by: Susie Chambers, Secretary –

The Lawrence County Tourism Commission met on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Fred Vinson Tourism office. Members in attendance were Wes Kingsmore, Brenda Hardwick, Debbie Hill, Christy Moore, Chris Jobe and Susie Chambers. Also attending were Johnda Barker, Brad Taylor, Shannon Sexton, Barbara Greer and Susan Salyer. Wes called the meeting to order and also gave the opening prayer.

Brad Taylor and Shannon Sexton spoke to us about the Louisa Bass Club and their upcoming Septemberfest fishing tournament. They stated that the tournament brings fishermen from around the area and their dollars spent here make a financial impact for local tourism.

Barbara Greer asked if we had plans to celebrate Fred Vinson day. Since that day and Bridge Day are close together we decided to combine the two events. We will celebrate both on Friday, June 27th at 6:00 pm at the Fred Vinson Building. Wes will try to secure a musical act and possibly a food booth.

Under old business Chris and Wes both participated in the Yatesville Lake cleanup. They reported a good crowd of volunteers showed up.

Minutes were approved with a motion by Chris and a second by Brenda. Motion carried. The financial report was approved showing a balance of $22,327.09 with a motion by Susie and a second by Debbie. Motion carried.

We voted to sponsor the Ray and Phyllis Sammons Memorial Ride with a $100.00 donation.

This event is organized by the Lawrence County Saddle Club. Susie made the motion and Chris made the second. Motion carried.

We will co-sponsor a car show in memory of Ryan Sammons with Second Chance Auto. This will be held on July 5th.

The upcoming Lawrence County fair will be the weekend of July 25 & 26.

Chris made the motion to adjourn with a second by Brenda. Motion carried.

Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday, June 16th at 5:30 pm at the Fred Vinson Tourism office.
