TWO TIMES IN THREE WEEKS!

Huntington, W. Va.  — For the second time in three weeks former Lawrence Co. Baseball star Bryce Blevins, now pitching at Marshall University has been named Sun Belt Conference pitcher of the week.

In a 2-1 loss in 13 innings on the road in Hattiesburg, Mississippi against Southern Miss on Saturday Blevins started and went nine plus innings including the first seven and 1/3 before allowing a hit. He left to a standing ovation after giving up one run, two hits, striking out four and walking two Golden Eagles.

On the season Marshall is 6-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Blevins a Sophomore lefty is scheduled to pitch again on Saturday against Arkansas St. in the friendly confines of Jack Cook Field in Huntington.

PLAYER’S COMMENTS

“… Being able to pitch at Southern Miss. is going to be something that I will remember for the rest of my life. Southern Miss. has been to a Super Regional the last 2 years and their fan base is absolutely crazy over their baseball team. Thousands of people were there a while before the game even started setting there chairs up just to make sure they were able to get a decent seat for the game. Going out to the mound in that first inning and looking around just to see all the fans and people yelling already was awesome. It’s something you dream of as a kid who has aspirations to pitch at the college level to pitch in front of a crowd that big. Pitching well was just another part of it. I knew after Fridays game that I needed to go out there on Saturday and give my team the best chance to win a game.”

“…  Arkansas State is a huge series for us. After this past weekend, we felt like that series should have been ours and we truly cannot wait to play in front of our fans at home for our first conference series at our new field. I have said it before and will say it now, this team is so enjoyable to be around and be on. Excited to compete again this week.”
