Dear Lawrence County Family,
Based on the number of new COVID-19 positive cases, we anticipate the state incidence map to reflect a
“RED” classification for Lawrence County in the near future. With this in mind, On Monday, October 12 , we made the decision to move all “Option 1: ALL IN @ School” students to “Option 2: ALL IN @ Home” for the remainder of this school week. In short, all in-person learning was moved to at-home learning through Friday, October 16 .
The decision for next week will be made by Saturday, October 17 . Here are some other decisions that were made due to our county incidence status/rate:
- We will continue our breakfast/lunch program as we did during summer feeding.
- All middle and elementary school sports were closed for the remainder of the week. No practices, nogames.
- In consultation with the Lawrence County Health Department and the Kentucky High School AthleticAssociation, high school sports may continue, with the following conditions:
o The athletic program CANNOT have a positive case that causes the team to quarantine. At the
time of this letter, we have a middle school team and a high school team that is quarantined and cannot compete or practice. All other programs at the high school have been given clearance to practice/play.
o The seating capacity for Friday night’s football game with Belfry has been reduced from 50% to 20% to allow for more social distancing.
o Note: Friday’s football game and all soccer matches this week are part of district play. Also, to the best of our knowledge, we have contacted all student/staff members that have been
considered contacts within the school district. Furthermore, we have called all students that were in class with any positive student, EVEN IF THE STUDENTS WERE NOT CONSIDERED A CONTACT. This is NOT required by the state, but we want to let you know as much information as we can legally share.
Finally, we appreciate your allowing your child to attend Lawrence County Schools, both virtually and in- person. We hope to have students back in the classroom in the near future. We appreciate your trust in us, and we appreciate your being…
All In,
Robbie L. Fletcher, EdD
