SUSPECT CLAIMED BOTCHEDÂ DRUG DEAL AFTER VICTIMÂ PULLEDÂ KNIFE ON HIM, DISARMING AND SLASHINGÂ ELDERLY MAN, AND LATER COMING BACK TO BURN THE RESIDENCE
TEENAGE MURDERER: DARYL ALAN RIGGS (PHOTO LEFT), 19, OF GENOA , WEST VIRGINIA; WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED ON NOVEMBER 3 WITH MURDER AND ARSON IN CONNECTION TO THE OCTOBER 28, 2024 FATAL FIRE IN THE FORT GAY, W. VA., AREA THAT KILLED ROBERT ESTEPP (PHOTO RIGHT), 65, FORT GAY; AFTER THE SUSPECT CONFESSED INCIDENT DUE TO A DRUG DEAL THAT WENT AWRY.
Daryl Alan Riggs, 19, of Genoa, West Virginia; has been charged with second-degree murder and arson following an incident that was reported in the 2100 block of Mill Creek Road on Monday,October 28, according to Wayne County magistrate court documents.The court documents stated that Daryl Riggs made a confession to police relating to the death of Robert Estepp, 65, of Fort Gay, West Virginia; on Sunday, November 3.
According to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, the remains of Robert Estepp were found inside the burned home.
During an interview with law enforcement, Daryl Riggs described the situation that ended deadly as a âdrug deal gone badâ.
Daryl Riggs told officers that Robert Estepp pulled out a knife during their encounter along Mill Creek Road, but that Dary Riggs claimed that he managed to kick the knife out of Robert Esteppâs hand after being cut by him.
Officers stated in the court documents Daryl Riggs had a cut on his left hand and thumb.
Daryl Riggs then admitted to âslicingâ Roberty Estep three or four times around the lower abdomen before taking off.
According to the criminal complaint, when police investigators asked about Robert Esteppâs home burning after the incident, Daryl Riggs responded to them by saying, âOh yeah, I did have to do that. I came back to burn the house down because I was scaredâ, officers said.
Daryl Riggs admitted to the officers that he set the back porch of the home on fire with a lighter.
After his confession and magistrate court arraignment, Daryl Riggs was taken to and lodged in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville in Cabell County; where he is being held on no bond allowed.
