Evelyn Vanhorn, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Community Hospice.

 

She was born September 20, 1941 in Louisa, KY to the late William Roscoe and Mary Jane (Queen) Shortridge.

 

Evelyn retired as the Director from the Family Resource Center at Fallsburg Elementary and attended Trinity United Methodist Church until it closed.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands William Parson and Harold Vanhorn; daughter Rhonda McGranahan; stepchildren Juanetta Reiter, Doris Smyra, Glen Vanhorn, Laura Miller, Norma Brown, Vickie Geyer, and Billy Vanhorn; sister Ella Shortridge and brother Roy Shortridge.

 

Survivors include her children Bruce (Louise) Parson, Darlene (Eddie) Church, Henry Paul Parson, and Harold Eugene Vanhorn, II; stepchildren Harold P. (Kathy) Vanhorn, Deborah (Corbitt) Vanhorn, Iris (Glen) Burchett, and Rachel (Keith) Ratcliff; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Shortridge Cemetery.

 

Friends may visit the family on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel.

 

 

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Vanhorn and her family.
