Work expected to extend into the new year
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Dec.02, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office advises motorists that an embankment repair project will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3, (or Thursday, depending on weather) on KY 3 at mile point 20.341 in Martin County.
This location has operated under temporary traffic signals since the April flood event that caused damage to the embankment and roadway. The upcoming repairs will address long-term stabilization needs to ensure a safer, more reliable travel route.
What to Expect
- Contractor: GSI (GeoStabilization International)
- Work Hours: Daylight hours, approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Traffic Impacts:
- Motorists may encounter periodic wait times, but delays should be similar to those currently experienced with temporary signals.
- Traffic will continue to be controlled through the work zone for the duration of repairs.
Project Duration
Work is expected to continue into the new year, with progress dependent on weather and site conditions.
