Eagle Ridge Golf League News
It’s That Time of Year Again!
The 2018 Golf League Will
Start Tuesday, April 24 at 5:00 PM
The Eagle Ridge Golf League will begin on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, with tee off at 5:15 PM. The price to join the league is $30, but if one joins before April 24, the price is $25.
NOTICE…
THERE WILL BE A GET TOGETHER ON TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2018 AT 5:00 PM FOR EVERYONE TO GET IN A ROUND OF GOLF, MEET THE NEW MEMBERS, RENEW OLD FRIENDSHIPS, SEE THE NEW RULES, AND BE FED FREE HOTDOGS.
The league is great fun and a place where you will make new friends. Regardless of the state of your golf game, there are equalizers within the rules. The older people get to move to forward tees so that the young bucks receive competition from the geezers. Finally, the handicap makes everyone competitive.
There are some changes in the playing rules. The three that create the most change are:
(1) There will be two one-half seasons of 10-week periods each, and then a playoff;
(2) Those persons carrying a minus handicap (not me), can elect to hit from the #2 tee and commence with a zero handicap. Once this election is made, it is irreversible.
(3) The sand traps are always in play. If you are worried, get that new sand wedge that Charlie and the Judge purchased. It is automatic.
The entire set of rules will be available in the clubhouse within the next few days.
League applications are at the pro shop. Stop by, fill out your application, and pay the $25 league fee and save $5. All monies are returned in prizes and include a free banquet dinner. If you have any questions, contact Troy Hughes or me.
If you haven’t played in the league, I would advise you to give it a try. You will meet people that you haven’t seen in years, new people that you’ve never met and others who may be some of your best friends. Regardless it will become your favorite evening of every week. It assures that you will play golf, that you will have someone to play golf with, and even pick up stories that you can even tell your grandchildren. Unfortunately, most of those stories will center around me. This is not because of any great, magnificent play I made. The tales of the various faux pas I have made while playing the course. You will hear tales of me chasing down a golf cart and catching it, falling backward into the creek, rolling all the way to the bottom of a ravine, or driving a cart to the point it had to be left on the side of the hill. This last escapade ended with Troy Hughes carrying my bag to the clubhouse. Don’t feel sorry for him because I told him I would carry the bag but he had to carry me. I hope that a monument is placed in each of these sites.
I can tell you that J Lynn See has been practicing his game, by playing almost every day in Florida. He is determined, to capture the league championship once again. But he is not alone. The boys down at the pool room told me that Charlie Curnutte, Dave Wallen, and Mike Hogan have found, a place in Huntington where one can, improve his game and stay inside and play great courses. You hit real golf balls, and a computer measures your swing. It documents whether your swing is inside out, whether you’re coming over the top, the face angle of your club at impact, including the distance of the shot, and other such measurements. It must just tell you everything. So now we know the people whose golf games are going to be ready.
I’ll see you at the course on Tuesday, April 17th.
