Eagle Ridge Golf League News
Chaffins wins the first-half championship in a shootout against Ronnie Wellman and Charlie Curnutte
James Chaffins had his hands full teeing off against perennial challenger, Ronnie Wellman, and 2-time league champion, Charlie Curruntte. The great thing is that everyone was on their game. All three contestants scored under par. So James had plenty of competition.
The scoring was as follows: Ronnie Wellman and Charlie Curnutte both had net 34s, two under par. James had a net 30, six under par. Two under par is always a good score at Eagle Ridge, but six under par, well what can I say. James, you earned the first-half championship, outright and unquestioned. Congratulations on having such a great round, especially under pressure.
Now, to explain what happens next. If James wins the second half, he will be league champion. If someone else wins the second-half championship through gaining the most points, then there will be a playoff between James and the second-half winner. Finally, if someone garners the most points throughout the year, and he is neither a first-half or second-half winner, then there will be a three-way playoff. If you don’t understand all of this, the winner or winners will be reported in the Lazer.
Rodney and his crew must be complimented for having the course in such great shape for this championship round. Kudos to Rodney and his team for making this the most beautiful golf course in the Tri-State area.
Our newest visitor is a wild boar. He was sighted running across the 14th fairway. The person who saw the boar managed a picture. Eagle Ridge is indeed a place of natural beauty. Deer and geese are everywhere as are squirrels, skunks, and rabbits. I also caught sight of a bear, oblivious to the traffic he had backed up, a Kentucky wildcat, and now the boar. Yatesville is genuinely a wildlife lover’s paradise.
Now for the rest of the scores, including we also-rans.
