Our Boys are still as hot as the weather.
An 18-Hole Course Record for the League has been set!
Tuesday, we played in hot and humid weather. It was the hottest league day of the year. My shirt was so wet when the round ended, I couldn’t use the air conditioner. And as hot as the weather, just as hot were the same two golfers mentioned last week.
In consecutive weeks two league gross scores records were set by Tom Copley on the back nine, and Troy Hughes for eighteen holes.
Back Nine (Par 36)
Last week, Tom Copley set a new league course record for the back nine, with a gross score of 33, three under par. If you remember, close behind Tom’s course record was Troy Hughes with two under par. This is a league course record for the back 9.
Front Nine (Par 35)
This week, we have a net one under par, 34, for nine holes. The score was shot by Troy Hughes. This is quite an achievement on any course in the area, but for Eagle Ridge, it is quite a feat. The front nine on Eagle Ridge is quite difficult. Congratulations Troy. Although Troy shot “lights out,” I must mention Tom Copley, who shot a 1-over par, 36. Another great round!
To put these gross scores in context for the past 2-weeks, Troy Hughes has set an 18-hole league record for Eagle Ridge, with Tom Copley 1-stroke behind. Although Troy’s score on the front nine was not a course record, his 18-hole score of 3-under par is a new record. Tom’s 18-hole 3-under par score, with a course record on the back nine, follows close behind. I cannot emphasize how good these scores are.
The combination of these two golfers’ play is indicated below:
Troy Hughes 34+34=68 (Par 71)
Tom Copley – 33+36=69 (Par 71)
Back in the day, meaning last century, occasionally I would shoot a 69 on a par 70 course. My USGA handicap hovered between a 7 and 8 for 18 holes. My home course’s slope was not nearly as high as that at Eagle Ridge. The slope measures a course’s difficulty. Eagle Ridge’s slope is by far the topmost of all the courses in our area.

Be aware that there are only 4-weeks remaining in the season. The new handicaps will be calculated before next week, and the leaders will be listed. There is a very close race for the championship.
Next week is the end of the regular league’s schedule. The final three weeks will be based on seeding. No makeup rounds can be used in the last two weeks of the league if such a score would change the outcome of the league championship. Otherwise, a banked nine can be used to set the final handicap.
See you next week at the course.
